Die ersten zwei Verfassungen, die er in seinem Spätwerk diskutiert sind theoretische Kostrukte der Philosophen Phaleas und Hippodamos, wobei Hippodamos wohl eher zu den Sophisten gehörte, was once es für Aristoteles aufgrund der Spannungen zwischen Philosophen und Sophisten wohl besonders interessant machte diesen zu kritisieren und sein geistiges Werk zu zerstören.
